Where do you get your oil changed?
There are a couple shops I trust within walking distance of the church. You have a place, I’m sure.
I have a mechanic I trust with bigger jobs, a pizza place for each occasion… even a garage door guy!
The world is really a wonderful collaboration of people’s gifts, creativity, and efforts when you consider it.
I’ve been in Mexico City this week. You can drive for hours encountering one beautiful community after another–one massive city.
Street by street–another cafe, another market, another shop full of headlights and hubcaps.
The shopkeeper is sitting at the door caring for the 10 by 10 space that feeds his family. A dog sleeps beside him. People, so many people, shuffle past.
I love it… but I can’t shake the ache in my bones that every shop is built for more. Every shopkeeper, and his family, was built for the glory of Jesus Christ.
There’s a day coming when every barber, dentist, roofer, and priest will stand before King Jesus. A day when “the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters of the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14).
Habakkuk wrote those words warning that all the work that wasn’t for the Lord would burn.
The beautiful streets, shops, and people must be turned to the true King before it is too late!
Glory to Jesus that He lived perfectly from birth through his construction work till his faithful ministry’s culmination in death.
Glory to Jesus that He died sacrificially to atone for the sins of every CPA, street sweeper, and teacher.
Glory to Jesus that He rose victoriously to reign eternally, and He gives His Spirit to the Church to testify powerfully!
Jesus Over Everything is the future of the world and everyone in it. The Church is a foretaste, a pilot episode, of the Jesus Over Everything future.
We must announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone in reach. We must teach them to sit on their shop stoop for the glory of Jesus Christ. Who will teach barbers, plumbers, musicians, and politicians to do everything in obedience to Jesus’ commands but the Jesus Over Everyday people, the Church?
My city of Lincoln Park has 40,000 people. In my community of Downriver there are 350,000. Detroit Metro has 5 million.
Can you see the need!? Who will reach them?
Reaching 1% of Lincoln Park produces a church of 400. That leaves 39,600 outside the doors. We could plant a church of 400 converts EVERY DAY for 34 years in Detroit Metro before we reached everyone. The evangelistic task is monumental.
Even more monumental is the calling to disciple– how many Jesus Over Everyday choices must be made by 400 mothers, clerks, and accountants? What about 40,000!?
Every community in every place needs a Jesus Over Everything people (a church). Most need several!
The Word tells of the nations bringing their gifts to King Jesus. The church stands as a testimony of the Jesus Over Everything future until He breaks through with the Jesus Over Everything kingdom.
We must call every shopkeeper, barber, plumber, and president to bow to Jesus.
We must teach every husband, father, farmer, and pipefitter to do everything He has commanded and train them in bringing their treasures to the King!
We must plant churches in every people and every place so that the work of announcing Christ and obeying Christ spreads to the ends of the Earth till He brings the end of the Age!
When I encounter the massive need of a place like Mexico City I’m reinvigorated to the beautiful mission of each local church–to see Jesus Over Everything in their place and people.
Where has God called you to make a Jesus Over Everything impact?
