Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh met in an epic football game a few weeks ago.
Sadly, both recently exited the college football stage.
As soon as Saban announced his retirement, Alabama fans held their breath. The movement of a leader like Saban is like a tectonic plate shifting.
Moments ago, when I heard Harbaugh was leaving the National Champion Michigan Wolverines, I felt the same shot of panic.
Having someone you trust in charge brings calm, instills hope, and breathes an air of confidence. It is awesome to have confidence in the person in charge.
When the Lord Jesus teaches us to pray, He says, “Your kingdom come.”
The Lord Jesus knows that the full and final display of God’s authority will be glorious.
If we’re honest, there are many times when we’re not feeling calm, hopeful, and confident about the way God is running this program. Clarity about the good gift of God’s authority often fogs in the frustrations of life.
Like the foolish callers on talk radio who critique Harbaugh or Saban we pretend we could build a better plan or call a better game. We start to wonder if we really want God in charge.
Isn’t it hilariously convicting that we tell God how things should be or choose our plan over His more than we challenge a college football coach for their seat!?
When Jesus invites us to pray “Your kingdom come,” He is inviting us to celebrate God’s rule as best.
Christians rejoice that God is in charge. We know God’s Reign is Best.
We need to remind our own hearts of this truth and declare in praise to God that we want His way not ours!
We must continually shape our desires by the declaration that God is in charge. We recalibrate our perspective by praising His commands & control.
Even when we aren’t feeling the emotions of desire for God’s way–we can express deeper longing and commitment to see God’s rule and reign become clearer each day in our world.
Everything wrong with the world is out of step with His good authority.
When new pray for His kingdom to come we pray that God would fully impose His good way on the world!
In prayer, we can have confidence in the One in charge and we have communion with the One in charge.
