Praying for Summer
Is your summer a time to take a breath or a time when you can barely catch your breath?
Some are thrilled to have late nights of summer sun.
Some are exhausted from keeping kids moving who thrive in their school schedule.
Whether you’re going to the lake to take a breath or finding it hard to come up for air with all that’s going on…
You need to pray for summer.
Prayer is the breath of the Spirit in the lungs of the believer.
You need the breath of the Spirit in the sails of your summer.
In prayer we fit together the Word of God with our spot and season in the world. We enjoy this communion conversation by the Spirit as loved children of the Father in Christ.
How does your summer fit together with what God says and values?
This summer depends on the Lord. The question is, will you depend on the Lord this summer?
Here are some questions to encourage your prayerful reflection as the summer heats up:
Praise
What are the main traits of creation in the summertime? What do these traits say about the Creator?
What special blessings does summertime bring? How can you thank the Giver throughout them?
Repentance
Where are your hopes too high for summer? Where can summertime be a gift that outshines the Giver?
Where are you inclined to complain about summer?
Do you face any particularly seasonal temptations in summertime?
Ask
Intercession–
Who faces vulnerability and frailty that summertime exposes?
Who has unique challenges for their work during the summertime?
Mission-
What unique opportunities does summertime present?
What challenges does the summer time bring to faithfulness in your calling?
Supplication–
What would you like to see God do in you this summer?
What do you need God to provide physically this summer?
What do you need God to provide spiritually this summer?
Yield
Take a breath, give the Lord your summer. Unless the Lord plans your summer, the plans are in vain. Unless the Lord protects your summer, the rest will not come. Unless the Lord provides this summer, you will not find what you need. Entrust your summer to Him and trust Him with your summer.
