When was the last time you had to wait 10 days for something to be delivered?
Maybe you remember the frustration of the supply chain breakdowns during COVID, or you ordered something only to receive that dreaded notification “Delivery Delayed.”
We live in an instant age… insta-cart, insta-gram, insta-everything.
These technologies and advances are incredible. I’m not against the advances that have made life easier in many ways.
I am concerned that we forget how to preserver when life gets harder.
In our instant age we might forget how to wait. We may subtly begin to believe that anything that takes time is broken.
Our insta-culture has lost its roots–we’re almost entirely unfamiliar with agriculture.
Farmers know that life takes time. Growing happens in seasons. Insta-fruit is an imagination.
Spiritual growth is agriculture.
You cannot insta-cart Christian character. You cannot over-night maturity. The growth you desire in your loved one won’t come express.
You must press on. To press on under pressure you must pray.
The farmer plows and waters and prays to God for rain.
Your spiritual life is a journey of dependent diligence much like the farmer.
And Christian, I’ve got good news– the Lord promises a harvest if you keep plowing!
7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
Galatians 6:7–10
