Have you ever seen a child at the Super Bowl?
Your friends and fam are gather around the TV at the party. As the camera pans the crowd you see a toddler filling a seat– looking around clueless, maybe sleeping.
The kid fills a seat that millions would love to fill, and most people couldn't afford.
It’s an incredible privilege and it feels very odd considering how much it cost to have the child missing the significance of the moment!
Believers have a better seat than the Super Bowl.
Jesus purchased your entrance to the throne room of grace in prayer.
I was reminded of this blessing as I reflected on Exodus 32-34.
Moses knew it was a steep price to be in God’s presence. In Exodus 32, the children of Israel have sinned by forming an idol from the golden calf.
God tells Israel He is not going to go with them any longer because His holy presence would mean catastrophic consequence for a sinful people,
“You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you.” Exodus 33:5
A few verses later we see the stark contrast where Moses is welcomed into the tent to meet with God, is able to talk with God as “a man talks with his friend,” and is able to catch a glimpse of God’s glory.
Moses’ face shines so brilliantly because of His encounter with God that the Israelites ask him to cover up.
The danger of sinful people being in the presence of God and the privilege of relating with a holy God are held in direct contrast.
In Christ, people once separated from God by sin are given safe passage into the presence of God.
Jesus did the work to welcome you into the throne room of grace and gives you permission to talk with your glorious God!
Entering God’s presence in your sin would lead to judgement. Because Jesus satisfied God’s wrath on sin, you can enter God’s throne room with confidence.
Jesus died to purchase the privilege of prayer!
An immature Christian is one sitting in a seat better than the Super Bowl without recognizing what it cost to be there.
A prayerless Christian is not recognizing the privilege they have been given.
Don’t miss the opportunity you’ve been afforded, brother or sister! The seat you have came at great cost.
Prayer is an incredible privilege, don’t miss the significance of the moment!
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
